Whereas collages made for display-in-original are necessarily of sturdy construction and true color, collages which are intended exclusively for print/digital publication might be [1] so delicate that even basic handling could destroy it, [2] strikingly different in color (due to digital adjustment during post-production), and/or [3] composited from multiple scans (i.e. there is not actually one singular original piece which could be displayed). It is therefore especially necessary to specify the ultimate purpose of an intended piece of collage artwork.

LEFT: "The Pugooroo" was made for display-in-original and is shown here at a greatly reduced size;
includes transparent vellum (for fading-out the backgrounds) and balsa wood glued to cardboard.
RIGHT: from the novella "Li'l Lynn Tells It Herself," in imitation of a child's art project;
the original was made only for reproduction, is extremely delicate, and greatly differs in color.
